This means that there is an issue with the system. Please contact us for advice.

Visual alarms have appeared on my iQ screen, what should I do?

Please refer to your system’s user manual for guidance. If you are still unsure, then please contact us for advice.

How do I know what filters my system takes?

Please refer to the yellow label attached to the filter which will tell you the specific ‘1UA’ number and description of the filter.

If this label is missing, please contact us with your system’s model and serial number.

Where can I find my system’s model and serial number?

All Donaldson BOFA extraction systems have individual serial numbers. This, along with the system’s model name or number can be found on a silver label located usually on the side or rear of the system.

How often should I check my system?

Your system’s user manual has a schedule for routine checks of your extraction system. We’d also recommend the following:

  • Daily: Inspect the extraction system to ensure it is running and check that any nozzles/enclosures/hoses are in place and correctly positioned.
  • Weekly: Inspect the physical condition of the extraction system and check the nozzles/enclosures/hoses for any damage.
  • Monthly: Disconnect hoses and check for any blockages. Check the fan for any signs of signs of dust or vapor.
  • Yearly: Have annual service of your system* to include all regular checks, plus inspection of filter condition and replacement (if necessary).

*If you are based in the UK, Health and Safety Executive COSHH Regulations 2002 stipulate your local exhaust ventilation (LEV) fume and dust extraction equipment must be thoroughly examined and tested at least every 14 months. Click here to find out more.

How do I change my filters?

Please refer to your system’s user manual for instructions on changing the filter. You can also watch our easy-to-follow videos that show exactly how to replace your filter.

How often should I replace my filters?

How often you need to change your filter depends on what you are using your fume extraction system for. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Replace filters in use every 12 months (both pre-filters and combined or bag/HEPA filters).
  • Replace filters when the indicator screen or LED lights show a blockage.

Remember, this is just a guide. The exact timing depends on your specific use.

My system’s filter condition display states my filters are in good condition, however I can smell the process - why?

The filter condition display only shows if there’s a physical blockage. It won’t alert you if the carbon filter is full unless you have a VOC sensor fitted. If there’s a smell around the process, then the capture setup may need evaluation. If you smell something from the exhaust, it means the carbon filter needs to be replaced.

Why is my pre-filter blocking so quickly?

Some processes generate a lot of dust or sticky particulate, which can fill up filters faster than expected. In these instances, we can offer additional pre-filters, cyclones, or multi-layer bag filters to help your system last longer and work better.

How do I dispose of my blocked or saturated filters?

Filters should be disposed of according to local disposal rules and regulations. If you are unsure, then please refer to your user manual or contact us.

Can my extraction system connect to my process machine for automatic control?

There are several optional extras available for our extraction systems including interface cables that allow systems to communicate with PLCs, or systems that allow a remote stop/start.

For more information, please contact us.

What airflow rate (speed) should my system be set to? (If system is fitted with variable airflow speed)

We recommend setting the extraction rate as low as possible but so that the fume can still be effectively removed from enclosures/breathing zones.
