Market first for BOFA for high-temperature 3D print filtration

May 3, 2022 | News & Articles

BOFA International is reinforcing its position as a market leader in portable atmosphere management and filtration technology for 3D printing with new patented technology designed specifically for high-temperature processes.

The company’s 3D PrintPRO HT marks a true innovation in 3D print atmosphere management and filtration and will be on display at the RAPID + TCT 2022 event taking place in Detroit between 17th & 19th May, where representatives from BOFA will be available at Booth #4022.

The new BOFA system has been designed to filter the particulate and high-temperature gases emitted by advanced 3D printers that process polymers at up to 932oF. This 3D method is used to create high quality finished products and components for a range of industries. Until now the high temperatures have created challenges for filtration systems to remove the extremely hot airborne fume, gases and nanoparticles emitted by the process. The system allows the chamber to be filtered without compromising the temperature, as well as helping protect the operator’s safety at the end of the print cycle with the chamber purge process.

The newly developed 3D PrintPRO HT uses advanced electronics components, thermal insulation and innovative air management to deliver high levels of filtration performance in chamber environments up to 230oF (110oC) – a 50% increase in temperature over other models in BOFA’s 3D PrintPRO range. This helps to support atmosphere management and prevents the build-up of particulate that could damage expensive equipment.

Katrina Clemens, General Manager, BOFA Americas, Inc commented: “This is another market innovation that is keeping pace with advances in 3D print technology. It enables businesses to benefit from the utilisation of high-performance polymers, while contributing to workplace atmosphere management. Furthermore, it helps optimise their investment in equipment as the 3D PrintPRO HT helps to protect the equipment as oily residue from high-performance filaments often coats the print chamber or printer components.

“We know that high-temperature 3D printers are increasingly in demand for the quality and diverse range of products they create – everything from medical devices and aeronautical components to bicycles and sports equipment – and the 3D PrintPRO HT will help facilitate the wider adoption of this technology.”
